Demons and
Ghost Stories:
The Exorcist (1973):
It's rumored that upon it's release,
"The Exorcist" had people screaming,
fainting, and vomiting in the theater.
Despite that, this terrifying tale of the
young girl possessed by demons
actually won not one, but two Oscars
in 1973, and has been viewed as the
scariest movie of all time. "The
Exorcist" is a must see for any horror
fan.
Exorcist: The Beginning (2004):
The prequel to the infamous film from
1973 follows the character Father Merrin
as he helps uncover a church buried
deep below Cairo. As we all know by
now, some things were meant to be
buried... and stay buried! The advances
in special effects have made this film far
more graphic and gruesome than the
original, and a perfect addition to "The
Exorcist" collection!
White Noise (2005):
This movie was inspired by the paranormal
investigation technique of EVP, which
stands for electronic voice phenomenon. It
is the process of picking up voices on tape
recorders that you can't hear with the
naked ear. Basically, they hear dead
people. Because this is inspired by real
findings of unexplainable occurrences, I
would put it pretty high on the creepy list!
The Shining (1980):
While Stanley Kubrick's version is quite a
bit different than the Stephen King novel it
was based off of, it's still one of the best
haunted house movies of all time. I still
can't look at Jack Nicholson the same
way! Overflowing with ghosts, disturbing
images, and elevators filled with blood,
you will choose the next hotel you stay in
very carefully after watching this movie.
Poltergeist (1982):
Yes boys and girls... it's heeere! This is
one of those timeless horror movies that
every generation should know about. Like
"The Exorcist", this movie and its sequels
also come with rumors of strange events
and mysterious deaths during production.
Packed to the brim with chills, thrills, and
the very important lesson of "buyer
beware", this is a ghost story for the ages!
